Math in the K-12: What’s the latest?

From its brainstorming in December 2010 to its finalization in August and September 2013, the Mathematics Curriculum in the Philippine K-12 Basic Education Program went through a battery of writeshops, reviews and revisions.
Mathematics is one subject that pervades life at any age, in any circumstance. Thus, its value goes beyond the classroom and the school. Mathematics as a school subject, therefore, must be learned comprehensively and with much depth. This insightful standpoint guided the formulation of the K-12 Mathematics Curriculum.
From conceptual framework to standards and competencies, from comparison of old and new curricula to the decongestion of topics, from materials to teacher trainings, and from unsolicited advices to humorous incidents, this talk summarizes the efforts and plans put forth by some mathematicians, math educators, math teachers, and the Department of Education for a better Math in the K-12.
